Rajendra Akerkar is professor (/senior researcher) of Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) at Western Norway Research Institute (Vestlandsforsking), Norway, where his primary domain of research is semantic technologies with aim to combine strong theoretical results with high impact practical results. He also holds visiting academic assignments in India and abroad. In 1997, he founded and chaired the Technomathematics Research Foundation (TMRF) in India. As founder of TMRF, he is instrumental in ensuring that the Foundation lends a platform for research exchange. He serves as an IT expert for many government/non-government agencies, including the European Commission, as expert evaluator of proposals and reviewer of running major funded projects. He also serves as an advisor to the company CCM Software.
